Food Equity Centre

Working with Nicholas Nisbett, Professorial Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, we produced this short film series to raise the profile of the Food Equity Centre, a research centre based at IDS. The films leveraged the presence of the centre’s visiting speakers, asking each to give their take on how to fix the global food system.

Shorts Series: 4 x 90 second films with both portrait and landscape versions for distribution across Bluesky, LinkedIn and Facebook

Keen to raise our profile on our social media channels while keeping costs down, Tom and Ben suggested leveraging visiting speakers to create a compelling films series that makes a genuine contribution to the discourse on global food politics.”

Nature Sense

Together with Chris Sandom, Associate Professor of Biology at the School of Life Sciences, University of Sussex, we developed an engaging promotional film for Nature Sense, a research enterprise offering biodiversity monitoring to land managers across Southern England.

Research Promo: 1 x 5 minute main film with additional 1 minute teaser for distribution across LinkedIn and Bluesky and event screenings.

Working with Ben and Tom at Chalkstone Films has been fantastic in many ways. They took the time to understand what we were trying to achieve, the story we wanted to tell and then helped us capture it. They were also totally comfortable filming out in the field and in the digital lab and produced films we couldn’t be happier with.

Intergenerational Exchange Programme

Commissioned by the Sussex Co-Lab to document a project connecting young people and adults through workshops that foster mutual understanding and community participation, led by Jessica Hadjis van Thiel, Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit, University of Sussex.

Research Project Profile: 1 x 7 minute film for University of Sussex website and distribution on LinkedIn.

“Working with Chalkstone Films on the Intergenerational Exchange Programme, they made a film that’s become an essential tool to explain what we do to any audience - students, partners, or funders. The team was easy to work with, responsive, and genuinely went above and beyond to capture both the emotional and practical heart of the programme. It sparks conversations and makes our impact feel real.”

Who Owns Brighton?

Commissioned by the Sussex Co-Lab to document a community research project co-led by Anke Schwittay, Professor of Anthropology and Global Development at the University of Sussex. The Who Owns Brighton? project provides a methodology for local communities to investigate whether new developments serve the needs of residents.

Research Project Profile: 1 x 6 minute film for University of Sussex website and distribution on LinkedIn.

“Working with the Chalkstone Films team on the Who Owns Brighton? film was a very positive experience, from the coordination to the filming to the final video, which looks great. One of our Media MA students also shadowed them for the filming, which was much appreciated.”

Anke Schwittay, Professor of Anthropology & Global Development, University of Sussex
